This month the Culters take a deep dive into cyberpunk history with the film that started it all. Well maybe not actually started but is often seen as the introduction of anime and Japanese cyberpunk into the west.
The movie Akira was adapted from the manga of the same name written by Katsuhiro Otomo. The movie was produced in 1988, described as a Japanese animated, cyberpunk action film. It was produced by Ryohei Suzuki and Shunzo Kato, Directed by Otomo who also co-wrote along with Izo Hashimoto.
The English dubbed version screen in Australian cinemas in the early nineties.
