The Gawler Oral History Project is lucky to have the support of local history and community organisations, whose resources, help and contribution have all helped make the GOHP a going concern.

National Trust SA Gawler Branch
Did you know that the National Trust SA has a branch and a museum in Gawler?
Located at 59 Murray St, just next to the Old Post Office Clock Tower, sits one of Gawler’s little history treasures, with rooms full of displays showcasing Gawler’s history.
Open each week from Tuesday – Friday, 1pm – 4pm, you can check out all sorts of stories and treasures salvaged from the town’s past, from the items owned by “Big” John McKinlay, who went searching for Burke and Wills, to a display of memories from Timer Fashions, which was a staple of Gawler industry and employment for many years, there’s all sorts of things to discover!

The Gawler History Team
The Gawler History Team is dedicated to learning about, preserving and sharing Gawler’s history, and since being established in 2011 they’ve built an impressive library of local historical knowledge.
The Gawler History Team holds meetings on the FIRST THURSDAY of each Month [except in January] in Zion Lutheran Hall, 7.15pm, rear of 22 Cowan Street, Gawler, featuring guest speakers talking about all aspects of Gawler’s history, from cinemas to dentists, from pubs to undertakers.
The Gawler History Team also has a great website – the Gawler Now & Then Wiki – where anyone can join up and share their memories of places, organisations, events and times in Gawler. At their website you can also link through to their massive collection of historic photos

The Bunyip
Here in Gawler, The Bunyip has a history all of its’ own. Established in 1863, it’s been a leader in providing the local news and opinion that keep our community informed.
But in addition to being the number 1 source of local news, The Bunyip is also one of the leading supporters of our community organisations. Every week The Bunyip helps our local organisations get their message out there, they support the markets, the festivals and the events that help make Gawler a great place to live, and we at the GOHP are very grateful for their continued support to our modest endeavour.
With a new issue printed each Wednesday, and a continually updated website, The Bunyip is the source you need if you want to keep in the know about what’s happening in and around Gawler, just head on over to their website and connect with The Bunyip!
Gawler Community Broadcasting Association
As a project emerging from the Gawler Community Broadcasting Association, the Gawler Oral History Project has received great support from our parent organisation. They help us with equipment, training, and even host our website for us.
If you’re interested in getting into media in any way, whether you want to make podcasts, movies, music, animations, write books, take photos, or learn to use the new technology available to creative producers, the GBA is the organisation for you.
Currently hosting a range of podcasts, and on the look out for as much locally produced content as they can get, the GBA are calling all creative content makers out there to come and get involved in making a vibrant, new and local media channel for Gawler!
