The first weekend in November promises to be a big one for Gawler, with festivals, fairs, birthday parties and much more

We’re getting into spring now, and the sun’s starting to peak out a bit more, daylight saving is here with its brighter, lighter evenings, and we’re starting to come out of our winter hibernation – all just in time for Gawler’s Big Weekend.

From Friday 4th – Sunday 6th of November Gawler will come to life with all sorts of activities for almost everyone to enjoy, including

Gawler Jazz Festival

Kicking off at the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club on Friday night, the Gawler Jazz Festival brings together great music and great food and features artists including The Dukes of Jump, MG, Soul’D, Red ‘n Blue, Jazz in Cheek, and Australia’s Got Talent finalists the Foenander Brothers.

Gigs are happening from Friday night until Sunday evening at café and hotel venues all around town, including Café Sia, Alchemy Café, Eagle Foundry B&B, the P/A Hotel, the Gawler Arms, The Golden Fleece and many more. If you’re looking to some good food and smooth tunes with friends, look no further than the Gawler Jazz Festival.

(Not) the Greatest Show on Earth Revue

Those doctors and nurses at the Gawler Health Service bring you a night of comedy and skits – it’ll be fun, it’ll be funny, it’ll be (Not) The Greatest Show on Earth.

With the show running for two nights at Starplex Theatre on Alexander Ave – Thursday the 4th and Friday 5th of November starting at 7:30pm, you can bring your own supper and drinks and sit back to enjoy the show.

With all proceeds going to the Gawler Health Foundation to improve the resources and facilities at the local hospital, you’ll know that each laugh means you’re helping the local community, plus, if you split your sides laughing there’ll be plenty of doctors and nurses to stitch you up. Rotary Village Fair

Running annually since 1979 the Gawler Village Fair is a bit of a tradition that’s being handed down from Gawler generation to Gawler generation, and it’s always a great morning out for the family.

The action kicks off at 9am with music from the Gawler Town Band and stalls from different community groups, and throughout the morning there’s stuff for the kids, lots of things to see, and activities to enjoy. And that’s not all, because the Village Fair is also a Jazz Festival venue, and the Adelaide City Jazzmen will be cranking out the tunes from 10am till the early afternoon.

It’s a fun morning to spend out with the kids, so come out and enjoy the sunshine at Pioneer Park on Saturday November 5th for the Rotary Gawler Village Fair.

The P/A on Murray St is turning 3!

Yes, it’s birthday party time at the P/A Hotel, and they’re celebrating with music, craft beers and a party in the laneway out the back!

Kicking off on Friday night and running all Saturday afternoon and evening (12-12), the P/A’s birthday party is a chance to relax, soak up some so chic tunes, and enjoy some good food and drink with friends. There’ll be music from jazz duo Red ‘n Blue, an outdoor bar and marquee, and stalls hosted by some of the community groups that call Mrs Fairweather’s establishment their home, including the Adelaide Plains Poetry Group and the GBA!

Come along and wish the P/A a happy birthday, you might even meet this Trevor bloke they keep talking about …

Why not have a snag for lunch while you find out the best ways to prepare against bushfires at the Roseworthy CFS Bushfire Action Week Open Day.

The day kicks off at 10am and runs over lunch, and with a BBQ sizzling and drinks available, kids activities, information displays, and the chance to get up close and personal with a real life fire truck, there’s lots of fun for everyone.

But with the Pinery fires still in recent memory, there’s a serious side to the day, with information about bushfires, and what you can do to protect your home, property and loved ones in the coming bushfire season.

So head out to the Roseworthy CFS Brigade and see what they, and you, can do to keep us all safe from bushfires this season.

Sustainable Living Festival 2016

Sunday morning the Sustainable Living Festival 2016 gets underway with food, music, workshops, kids activities and a cooking demonstration by The Cook & The Chef’s Simon Bryant.

Starting at 10am at the Gawler Regional Natural Resource Centre at 8 Adelaide Rd, Gawler South (opposite Mitre 10), the festival is all about making community connections, promoting thoughtful consumption and lightening your earthly footprint.

With guest speakers including author and dry climate gardening specialist Trevor Nottle, sustainable gardens experts Professor John Boland and Chris Bryant, recycling blogger Helen Edwards, and ekoo founder Kerry Cleopatra as well workshops, kids activities, competitions and even music, with jazz duo MG performing.

So your Sunday morning for Gawler’s Big Weekend is set – head on down to the heart of sustainable gardening in Gawler and learn about lightening your impact on the environment – you might even get lucky enough to taste some of Simon Bryant’s cooking.

So with so much to do and see in Gawler from Friday the 4th November through till Sunday the 6th you can enjoy food, festivals, fairs, revues, open days and more. Now that Spring is here, it’s time to head out of the house and see what the town has to offer. Get ready, Gawler’s in for a Big Weekend!
