Spring is here, and we know what that means in Australia – finals time!

After another tough winter it’s coming down to the sharp end of the season for sporting clubs in the Gawler area, and for the football, netball, and hockey leagues the finals are underway.

The BL&GFA 2nd Semi Final Saturday 3rd September at the Angaston Oval

In the Barossa, Light & Gawler Football Association’s A-Grade Men’s competition, Barossa District have begun the hard road to the finals by defeating Kapunda in the First Semi-Final 16.7-103 to 9.9-63. The emphatic win booked their place in the Preliminary Final, where they’ll play either Gawler Central or Tanunda, who will clash in the Second Semi-Final this Saturday

Barossa District are also enjoying success in the Barossa, Light & Gawler Netball Association’s Senior 1 Competition, pushing Gawler Central out of the finals race with a solid 6o-54 victory in the First Semi-Final. Having confirmed their position in the Preliminary Final, Barossa District must wait until after this weekend to see whether they will be facing Kapunda or South Gawler to earn a place in the Grand Final.

This weekend also sees the start of the Barossa Valley Hockey Association finals series, with the top A-Grade Men’s and Women’s teams heading out to face off in the Semi-Finals this weekend. In the A-Grade Men’s, the ever strong Nuriootpa team will be taking on arch rivals Tanunda, while Angaston-Moculta United (AMU) will be taking on last year’s runner-up Gawler.

In the A-Grade Women’s semi-finals, Tanunda will take on Gawler, while Nuriootpa will go head-to-head with AMU.

The Preliminary finals for all these leagues will be played on the 10th September, and the Grand Finals on the 17th September, and both are sure to be big days for sport in Gawler.

So as we head into another season of Spring Finals Fever, get your colours out, and support your local team – we might see you at the game!
