Gawler's E.H Coombe Walking Tour Launches in May.

April 5th was the anniversary of the death of a remarkable Gawler citizen, E.H.Coombe. Social reformer, politician, enlightened editor of The Bunyip and local businessman, Ephriam Henry Coombe left and indelible mark on the town in which he was born and lived most of his life.

The anniversary of his death was marked with the launch the E.H.Coombe Walking Tour of Gawler Brochure by Gawler Mayor Karen Redman at the Todd Street Uniting Hall.

In attendance were Helen Hennessy, the driving force behind the brochure and biographer of E.H.Coombe, many of his descendants, councillors and citizens of Gawler. The Voice of Australia Gawler Choir opened and closed proceedings with beautiful renditions of Song of Australia and other pieces of a patriotic nature and the ladies of Todd Street Uniting Church provided morning tea.

So for those feeling energetic pick up a Walking Tour brochure from Gawler Visitor’s Centre, fortify oneself with adequate water and sunscreen and head to Gawler Station where the walk is scheduled for at 10am-12pm on both Sun 21st of May, and Friday 26th of May.

But warning, leave an hour and a half free to complete the walk. It covers over four kilometres ending at Gawler Central Railway having been up to the Willaston cemetery where E.H. Coombe is buried.
