The Gawler Community Gallery was quick off the mark this year with their first exhibition for 2017 opening on the 5th January. If you haven’t called in yet, you still have until the 12th of February to catch this display.

On show are Lisa Bergen’s ‘Feathers, Tails and Fingernails’, Robert Laidlaw’s ‘European Whirl’, and Samantha and Rosene Kotz’s ‘Reflections of SA’.

I was fortunate to view ‘European Whirl’ with the photographer himself, Robert Laidlaw. One of the photos is of the Vatican as you have never seen it before. Rob explained how he had persuaded the bus driver to stop so that he could get the shot, while the driver kept insisting, “This is most irregular! This is most irregular!”  Most European countries are represented; you will recognise many and wonder about some, but love the artistry of all.

Upstairs both rooms are taken with “Reflections of SA”. In one of the rooms is a photograph, of a section of an old car. Next to it is a painting of the same section. I could not decide which I preferred. I think they belong together!

Lisa Bergen has won prizes at the Adelaide Show for both graphite and oil. She presents a varied display on the ground floor.

Along with the gift room, a visit to the Gallery is a worthwhile thing to do.
