Merry Christmas from the GBA

Part of the Series “News
Produced by on December 23, 2016

Thanks to all our supporters, be they individuals, community groups or local businesses, it’s been a big year for Gawler’s newest media outlet, and with your help we’re looking for an even bigger 2017!

It’s been just over 1 year since the GBA was officially incorporated, and began to produce digital media content for the local community. Since then we’ve been overwhelmed by the community support we’ve received. Whether it’s been from the Gawler Business Development Group who helped us to start out, from Community House, who give us a home, or from a whole range community groups, organisations and local businesses who have contributed heaps of in-kind and moral support throughout the year, the GBA has been kept alive with the help and support of the local community, and we’d like to take the opportunity to say a really big thank you for making our little experiment in local digital media a success so far!

GBA’s resident podcasting expert Gerri Donaldson imparts some wisdom

Since we began just over a year ago, we have produced a range of different podcasts, we’ve held our own events and fundraisers, begun training new podcasters in the art of audio editing, and contributed to a range of other community events throughout the calendar year, from Gawler Rotary’s Trash and Treasure SwapMeet, to the Gawler SALA 2016 trail and to Gawler’s Big Weekend with its many fairs and events.

We’ve covered the weather, keeping you posted on dust storms and floods, and tried to keep you in touch with all the different groups and events that contribute to making Gawler such a great place to live.  We’ve started a range of projects including our Backwards in High Heels, and Gawler Oral History Project, both of which are looking to create living histories of our local community.

So much water ran through the town when the floods hit in spring

But most importantly, we’ve had fun! It’s been great being part of such a vibrant and resourceful community, and we’re eager for more. We’ll be back next year bigger and better than ever, with more podcasts, more event coverage, more community news, and much, much more fun.

If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you, no matter what you enjoy doing, whether it’s learning how to podcast, taking fantastic pictures, writing stories or news, collecting oral histories, learning to be a sound engineer, creating art, making movies, it doesn’t matter, the GBA has a place for your talents.

So from all of us at the GBA, thanks for a wonderful year, We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and some Happy Holidays, and we’ll see you again next year!
