Welcome to the Classic Cult TV Club, (CCtvC), Christmas Special with Justin, Lisa, Alex, Angus and Janette.

To celebrate the festive season the “culters’ discuss an episode of the cult tv classic series, The Avengers, not the Marvel superheros but the original, ITV “spi-fi” series that ran from 1961-1969 in the U.K. It was the brain child of Sydney Newman, (1971-1997), Canadian film and TV producer working in the U.K. who went onto to develop Dr Who.

The series features suave secret agent, John Steed and the female, “side-kick” co stars, played first by Honour Blackman as Emma Gale, (81-4) then the legendary Dianna Rigg as Emma Peel, (65-68) and finally Linda Thorson as Tara King. The first four series were filmed in black and white.

(Of interest, initially Emma Peel was paid less than the cameramen. She demanded equal pay to her co-star, and was granted it.)

In this episode John Steed’s dreams of a surreal Christmas Landscape inhabited by an evil Santa begin to come true. Is the answer to the mystery to be found while kicking back at a Dicken’s themed country house Christmas Party?
