Welcome to the Classic Cult TV Club, (CCtvC), with Lisa, Alex, Angus, Gypsy, Janette, Justin and Mackenzie.
Towels at the ready!! The “culters” are back in person this month to watch and discuss the 1980s TV adaptation of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and to also have a look at the film and see how the two productions compare. There is also some discussion about the Radio Play and the books.
The episode was first broadcast on 5th January, 1981 on BBC 2. Produced and Directed by Alan J Bell and written, of course by the legendary Douglas Adams. The series stars Peter Jones as the voice of the guide book, Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, David Dixon as Ford Prefect, Mark Wing Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox, Sandra Dickinson as Trillian and Stephen Moore as the voice of Marvin.
The Film (2005) was directed by Garth Jennings, written by Douglas Adams and Karey Kirkpatrick and stars Stephen Fry as the voice of the Guide, Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent, Mos Def as Ford Prefect, Sam Rockwell as Zaphod Beeblebrox, Zooey Deshanel as Trillian, Alan Rickman as the voice of Marvin and Bill Nighy as Slarty Bartfast.
